Becoming a Sneaker Enthusiast

Sneakers by definition are shoes that are specifically designed for sports or other forms of physical exercise, such as the Converse All Star, which was introduced in 1917 as a performance basketball shoe, but as with time everything changes and innovation occurs, Sneakers are now a staple in casual wear and has formed its own culture within fashion and streetwear.

My name is Eniola Olugbusi, I am a sneaker enthusiast, and sneaker restorer, welcome to my new blog, CrepTalk, in which we’ll be studying and commenting on everything surrounding sneaker culture, including upcoming releases, reviews and impressions. Therefore, helping you step right and talk right about shoes in general. Overall, I hope to share and grow this enthusiasm with as many people as possible.

Now you are probably thinking what a sneaker enthusiast is and is it the same as a sneakerhead. Simply put, they’re different to each other, a sneaker enthusiast is someone who has great taste and interest in sneakers and its culture, often learning the design stories behind shoes and its colourways, an enthusiasts collection may not be as good as compared to sneakerheads collection, as he or she are usually not willing to spend the required amount of money to obtain a pair of shoes when the cost begins to get too high (so were not cheap, were just selective on the prices). A sneakerhead on the other hand is someone who buys and collects rare or shoes, usually the price isn’t a much of a big deal breaker, so long as it’s not a rip off, sneakerheads may even buy a the same pair of shoes, so that they have one for actually wearing and the other is more like a collectable.

So, a sneaker enthusiast may have a nice few pair of shoes to which they wear but take great care of them. My Oreo Jordan 4s for example, I have had them for years, and yet people are still surprised that they look only a couple weeks old, it’s because I take great care of them, and I clean them when I can, but also I appreciate the history behind the Jordan 4, including its Mars Blackmon commercials and Michael Jordan hitting ‘The Shot’ to win the series against the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1989 on Craig Ehlo.

Furthermore, my Fire Red Jordan 3’s, which I’ve had for 4 years are still looking fresh, but that’s due to the restoration service of Creplaboratory, in which they offer amazing restoration services, anything from deep cleans to repaints at amazing prices too, but I digress, what I’m trying to point out is that being a sneaker enthusiast doesn’t mean you have to have an amazing collection, you could simply have a great a passion for the art of sneakers and the stories behind its various designs and the minds around shoe, it’s an appreciation towards such things that makes you an enthusiast, so whether you only have a couple rare gems or basic beaters in your ‘collection’ it’s always the appreciation that counts.

Thank you for reading, and welcome to CrepTalk. Step right. Talk right.
